California Advanced Specialists
are required to maintain their advanced specialty certification
status by submitting proof of continuing education to NALA in
addition to the CLA requirements. Twenty (20) hours of
continuing legal education are required of California Advanced
Specialists every five years. At least 10 hours must be in
the specialty area of California certification and the remaining
credit must be in subject areas relevant to the work of legal
assistants.
Continuing education units are
awarded for such efforts as participation in seminars, workshops
and teaching. Credit will also be awarded to California
Advanced Specialists for individual self study up to a maximum
of 10 hours. This would include reviewing instructional
legal audio and video tapes, reading legal texts, law review
articles and articles published in professional legal journals.
The National Association of Legal Assistants will maintain
records on the CLE credits awarded. Proof of attendance
and requests for self study credit shall be submitted to NALA
headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
